So You have Lost the weight, Now What?
SO YOU LOST THE WEIGHT, NOW WHAT? Read this blog to find out!
SO YOU LOST THE WEIGHT, WHAT NOW?
What motivated you, finally, after all that time to lose those forty pounds? Or, what will give you the push that you need to be slim again? Once those pounds are gone, how will you maintain your new slim self? How can you be sure, absolutely sure, that you will not gain it back again?
The holidays are just around the corner and we all know that’s such a slippery slope. All those parties with food and drinks on every table. And let’s not forget to mention all those irritating members of the family that we feel obligated to spend time with. For most people, the holidays are a very emotional time and so many of us turn to food to calm those emotions. You probably don’t want to do that again this year, so how will you change the pattern? When you feel uncomfortable and irritable, how will you manage not to stuff those feelings with hors d'oeuvres?!
What habits will need to change to keep you from putting the weight back on? How easy is it to change those habits that we have around food? Not that easy!
The holidays bring up so many uncomfortable feelings and memories that we don’t know what to do with. We feel anxious and stressed so we reach for an eggnog or a nosh. It’s the easy thing to reach for. As the saying goes, “food is easy, life is hard.” Or another one, “I eat for every feeling I’ve ever had.” Food is what we give ourselves as a reward for losing those pounds, or for finishing that task. We comfort ourselves with a hot chocolate, a latte, warm bread from the oven with lots of butter, or ice cream with lots of hot fudge topping. Of course, then we feel uncomfortable and remorseful. And now we have more physical discomfort along with the negative feelings! What can we do?!
There’s a saying that inside every heavy person is a thin person crying for help. Why did we answer that cry for help? Let’s see if we remember why it was so important to us. Perhaps we wanted to have more energy, and to feel more comfortable in our bodies. We wanted to look good in our clothes! We were so tired of feeling tired and exhausted all of the time. We wanted to feel better about ourselves and maybe even attract that elusive soul mate who is out there somewhere. We wanted to feel, look and act sexier. We felt ashamed of the way we looked. It was hard work but we did it! We lost 40 lbs! But did we also lose the triggers or the automatic programming that caused us to reach for our drug of choice in the first place? It is really not about the food, is it? What we weigh and how we look is about so much more than what we eat.
So before the holidays arrive with all of those emotional booby traps to trip you up, maybe we all would benefit from some easy EFT! Look for more on this subject soon!
